About MovingEGG
MovingEGG is an easy-to-use free software tool to visualize electroglottographic signals.
A real-time version of MovingEgg has recently been presented at the PEVOC 8 in Dresden. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of the demo-version, please contact me:
![]() What MovingEGG does
Inspecting and analyzing EGG signals is a tedious process. They contain hundreds of vocal fold vibratory cycles per second. Viewing single cycles and listening to the audio channel at the same time is basically not possible. This is the reason why MovingEGG has been developed:
MovingEGG identifies vocal fold vibratory cycles within an EGG signal, extracts single cycle data and converts it to an AVI movie file (see example). The resulting file can be viewed by any video file viewer (such as, for example, the VLC player).
Why MovingEGG is great
Why MovingEGG has no real-time capacity
The philosophy behind the application development of MovingEGG is to maximize accuracy. Thus, calculations are very exact, but also rather time-consuming. On currently available desktop computers one second of sound takes about two to six seconds to process, depending on the application configuration and your hardware.
Availability
MovingEGG has been tested on Windows 2000 and XP. It is available for all the 'newer' Windows operating systems, i.e. XP, 2000, NT, ME, 98 and 95. There might be a Linux version of the application coming up in the future.
License / Registration
MovingEGG is freeware. There are two application versions: A demo with limited functionality, and a full version. The full version is also free, but requires the user to register. We decided to introduce the registration process to get in contact with the MovingEGG users, and to increase communication and feedback, which helps maintaining a high software quality and usability.
